World of Sharr
Like many of the magical disciplines taught by the Wysers, Beast Mastery can be broken down into two distinct paths of learning. The first, for which the discipline is named, is the ability to communicate with animals and issue them commands. The second path is that of the Lycanthrope, where the Wyser sumberges himself in the most primal parts of his mind and surrenders to instinct. While in this state, or aspect, the Wyser experiences a boost to some or serveral of his physical characteristics. Though Beast Masters can technically command or imitate almost any type of animal, they often specialize in one or two specific species.
Those Beast Masters who follow the path of command find that they have quite the arsenal at their disposal. Birds and pests make excellent and inconspicuous spies, and animals such as wolves and bears are easily capable of defending the Beast Master. In addition to simply commanding the animals, a Beast Master, of both verieties, can communicate – on one level or another – with them. For those who are still early in training or simply did not intensely follow this aspect of their discipline this could be as basic as getting a good general feeling for what the animal is thinking. There are, however, those Beast Masters who are seemingly capable of holding entire conversations with their feral companions.
